India presently consists of 29 states and 7 union territories. In northern India, there are Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh; while Chandigarh is a union territory. In western India, there are Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa and Maharashtra; with union territories of Lakshadweep, Diu and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

In southern India, there are Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with union territory of Pondicherry.

In eastern India, there are Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Tripura, with Andaman and Nicobar Islands as union territory.
