Let a ray of monochromatic light OP incidents at P on the retracting face AB at an angle of incidence i_{1}i

1

and suffers refraction from air to glass to glass, bends towards the normal making an angle of refraction equal to r_{1}r

1

and finally travels along the path PQ inside the prism . Again the refracted ray PQ strikes the retracting surface AC of the prism at an angle of incidence r_{2}r

2

and after suffering refraction from glass to air, it energes out of the prism at an angle of emergence i_{2}i

2

Here, the angle between the direction of incident ray and the emergent ray (∠LMQ) is called angle of deviation of the ray of light after refraction through the prism.

Answer:

Let a ray of monochromatic light OP incidents at P on the retracting face AB at an angle of incidence  and suffers refraction from air to glass to glass, bends towards the normal making an angle of refraction equal to and finally travels along the path PQ inside the prism . Again the refracted ray PQ strikes the retracting surface AC of the prism at an angle of incidence and after suffering refraction from glass to air, it energes out of the prism at an angle of emergence i2.

Here, the angle between the direction of incident ray and the emergent ray (∠LMQ) is called angle of deviation  of the ray of light after refraction through the prism.
