Johnsy was a girl suffering from pneumonia. She had lost her will to live her life with joy, as a result of which she stopped eating food , refused to drink the soup that Sue used to cook for her . The overall result was that she started to compare her life with the falling of the leaves on the creeper. She also exclaimed that when the last leaf would fall she would sleep forever in peace. She did not understand that the falling of leaves from the creeper was a natural phenomenon during autumn . Due to this her mental condition worsened ,the medicines too which were given by the doctor had no effect on her. She was advised by the doctor that until and unless she did not force herself to get rid of her depression she could not get normal as she was before ..
