The position time graph with following data and predict the type of motion. Position (in meter): 2,8,18,32,58

Time (in seconds): 1,2,3,4,5 respectively.

Solution:

I have plotted the graph using DESMOS CALCULATOR , which shows the position along Y axis and time along X axis.

You can see that the slope of the POSITION-TIME graph is increasing with increasing time , this means that the object is increasing its velocity with time.

This means that the object is accelerating , hence the motion is non uniform.

  • Whenever this kind of graph is provided , always remember that the object (car , etc) is accelerated such that it's velocity is increasing with time.

  • Also the position is not changing linearly.
