First of all we have to figure out what type of mirror it is. According to the question it is said that the ray is always erect and diminished at all positions.

It is only possible for a convex mirror. I have attached the ray diagram. There are several uses of a convex mirror such as in automobiles or in street light bulbs etc.

A convex mirror forms an erect diminished virtual image for all the positions of the object placed in front of it.

A convex mirror is used as rear view mirrors in automobiles, as reflectors in street light bulbs and in parking lots.
