Draw the shape of the distance-time graph for uniform and non-uniform motion of object. A bus of starting from rest moves with uniform acceleration of 0.1 ms–2 for 2 minutes. Find (a) the speed acquired. (b) the distance travelled.

Uniform motion refers to a type of motion followed by an object where the speed or velocity of the object changes with respect to time whereas in a non-uniform motion, the velocity of the object “doesn’t change” with respect to the time.

Given data:

Acceleration a=0.1 \frac{m}{s^{-2}}

Time taken t=2 min ⁡= 120 s

The bus starts from rest so the initial velocity u will be zero, u = 0.

The distance ‘’s’’ travelled by bus can be found by the equation.

s=u t+\frac{1}{2} a t^{2}

Substituting the values

s=0 \times 2+\frac{1}{2} \times 0.1 \times 120^{2}

s=720m.

The Travelled distance is 720m.

The speed of bus will be

speed=\frac{\text { distance }}{t i m e}

speed =\frac{720}{120}

=6 \frac{m}{s^{2}}

The speed acquired is 6 \frac{m}{s^{2}}
