Propanoic acid is a compound containing three carbon atoms

and has a carboxylic acid attached to it as the functional group.

Butanone, also called methyl ethyl ketone, is a compound containing four carbon atoms and has a carbonyl group attached to it and therefore belongs to the group of ketones.
