Leaves are the primary site of photosynthesis. Leaves face the sun and they are amazingly adapted to carry out this marvelous process of fixing carbon dioxide to produce glucose. Several anatomical features of leaves make them apt to capture light rays from sun and carry out the further process. Leaves are flattened to expose maximum surface area to receive sunlight. They are very thin so that light captured reaches the reaction center to photo activate it and excite the electron from it. The beautiful arrangement of cells inside leaves is can be understood by analyzing the cross section of a leaf.
