Open Switch and variable resistor
Explanation:
A switch is said to be open when no current is drawn from the cell, and the circuit is open or incomplete. The electric appliance is said to be 'off' when the switch is in open condition. Contrarily, when the switch is closed, current is drawn from the cell and the circuit is complete.
A variable resistor is a resistor of which the electric resistance value can be adjusted. It works by sliding a wiper terminal across a resistive material, typically a thin film or chunk of carbon or a resistive wire made of nickel chromium or tungsten alloys.
Please refer to the attached picture for the symbols.
