Wavefront is a commonly used term if we are studying about waves. It refers to such a surface on which a wave has a non-changing points. It can also be defined as a group of points of wave where each point has the similar positioning. One of the best examples of wavefront to understand the term is the entire set of crests form during the formation of ripple in water.


Mainly, there are about three types of wavefronts which are named below:

1. Spherical Wavefront


2. Plane Wavefront


3. Cylindrical Wavefront

If we are close to the source of light, then the wavefront will appear to be spherical. Opposite to what discussed earlier, if we are far from the source of light, then the wavefront will appear to be plane.
