Draw two tangents to a circle of diameter 10 cm from a point P at a distance of 7.4 cm from
its centre
Answers
Given : a circle of diameter 10 cm
To Find : Draw two tangents to circle from a point P at a distance of 7.4 cm from its centre
Solution:
Step 1 : Mark a point O
Step 2 : Using compass width = 5 cm draw a circle
Step 3 : draw a ray OX
Step 4 : Using compass width = 7.4 cm and taking O as center cut the ray OX at P
Step 5 : Using suitable compass width and taking O as center draw arcs on both sides of OP
Step 6 : Keeping compass width same and taking P as center draw arcs such that it intersects arc drawn in previous step at X and Y
Step 7 : Join X and Y , intersecting OP at M
Step 8 : Using compass width = OM / MP and taking M as center draw a circle / arcs intersecting the first circle at points A and B
Step 9 : Join PA and PB
PA and PB are the required tangents
