Explanation:

When a ball is thrown vertically upward from a height then the ball in the air is acted upon by a constant force in the downward direction. This means the ball is in constant deceleration motion. This causes a decrease in the velocity of the ball in a vertical direction at a constant rate.  

Initially, the ball goes up by decreasing its velocity from a positive to zero till it reaches its maximum height and then decreases its velocity from zero to negative while going down.

One thing is to be noted that the ball has the same magnitude of its velocity at initial and the final instant at the same height.  

So, our graph is as given.
