Answer:

Well, One of the major drawbacks of Rutherford's Atomic Model was that as he had suggested the idea of orbits having definite energy, one of the major disappointments were that since the electron had to move in a circular orbit it was continuously moving in a charged surroundings along with simultaneous centripetal Acceleration.

However, Maxwell according to his electromagnetic theory had suggested that accelerated charges in electromagnetic fields radiate energy.

And, hence the electron should have actually continuously lost it's energy and finally spiral down into the nucleus within approximately 10^-9 seconds.

However this wasn't true or observed.

So, this was a major setback in accepting Rutherford's theory as the most legible at that time.

  • The model is applicable for one electron system.
  • According to Rutherford as the electron revolves around the nucleus it liberate energy regularly so when the electron loses all its energy it should fall in the nucleus which was impossible.
  • The model does not give the objection raised by Clerk Maxwell related to continuous emission of energy by electron.
  • The Rutherford’s model of atom does not say anything about the arrangement of electrons in an atom.
