Explanation:

It could not explain the stability of an atom, i.e how a positive charge in the atom holds the negatively charged electrons. It could not explain the position of nucleus in an atom. Drawbacks of Rutherford's Model: The orbital revolution of the electron is not expected to be stable.

Drawbacks of Rutherford model

Explanation:

  1. Rutherford has proposed that electron revolves at high speed in circular orbit around A positively charged nucleus but such a model had a defect to remain in a circular orbit the electron would have to be accelerated centripetally already early but according to the electromagnetic theory if a charged body is accelerated around the another charged body and then there would be a continuous variation of energy from the moving body this loss of energy would slow down the each of the electron and eventually the electron would fall into the nucleus but such a call as does not occur rutherford's model could not explain why
  2. Rutherford had proposed that electrons revolve around the nucleus in fixed Orbit however he did not specify the number of electrons in each Orbit.
