drawbacks Rutherford scattering experiment
1) an electron when circulate in orbit , is accelerated and according to Maxwell's theory of electromagnetic wave , an accelerated electron radiates electromagnetic radiation . this results a continuous decrease in the energy of electron and the electron approaches the nucleus and finally collide with it . but this is not occur , hence, it failed to explain the stability of atom .

2) it also failed to explain how the electrons are configured around the nucleus and the energy of electron.

3) it also fails to explain the discontinuous of hydrogen spectra .

The major drawbacks of Rutherford's model of atom ----

1) Any charged particle when accelerated is expected to radiate energy. To remain in a circular orbit, the electron would need to undergo acceleration.
The revolving electron would lose energy and finally fall into nucleus. If this were so, the atom would highly be unstable. Therefore matter would not exist, but we know matter exists. Hence atoms are stable.

2) Rutherford could not explain the distribution of electrons in the extra nuclear portion of the atom.

Hope This helps!
