Drawbacks of Rutherfords model of atom
Answers
Answer:
Although Rutherford's experiment proved that 'plum-pudding' model of an atom was not correct, yet it had following defects:
1. According to classical theory of radiation, electrons being the charged particles should release or emit energy continuously and they should ultimately fall into the nucleus.
2. It the electrons emit energy continuously, they should form a continuous spectrum but in fact, line spectrum was observed.
Explanation:
Rutherford's model of atom concluded that the electron moves around positively charged nucleus ,,,
as a charged moving moving in circular path would continuously accelerate and radiate its energy .
it will lose it energy and came closer and closer to nucleus
this leads to atom collapse, as electron will spiral into nucleus
