Step-by-step explanation:

Given drinking water is filled in a water tanker which is in the shape of cylinder with hemispherical ends .The whole length of tanker is 4.2 m and the diameter of the base cylinder and two hemispheres are each 1.2 m if they distribute drinking water to 60 people in a container each in shape of a cylinder of radius 21 cm and height 50 cm. Find the quantity of water left in the container after distributing in litre.

  • Total height of the tank = 4.2 m
  • Diameter of cylinder = 1.2 m , so r = 0.6 m
  • Now height = (4.2 – 1.2) = 3
  • So r will be radius of hemisphere and cylinder.
  • Volume of tank = volume of cylinder + 2 x volume of hemispheres.
  •                           = π r^2 h + 2 x 2/3 πr^3
  •                            = π r^2 h + 2 x 4/3 πr^3
  •                             = 22/7 x (0.6)^2  x 3 + 4/3 x 22/7 x (0.6)^3
  •                            = 3.3942 + 0.9051
  •                            = 4.2993 m^3
  • Radius r1 = 21 cm = 0.21 m
  • Height of container h1 = 50 cm = 0.5 m
  • Now volume of first container = π r1^2h1
  •                                                = 22/7 x 0.21 x 0.21 x 0.5
  •                                                = 0.0693
  • Volume of 60 containers = 60 x 0.0693
  •                                       = 4.158 m^3
  • So amount of water left in the tank = volume of tank – volume of 60 containers
  •                                                     = 0.1413 m^3
  • Now 1 m^3 = 1000 litres
  • So water left in the tank will be 141.3 litres.
  • Now height of cylinder = total height – 2 x radius of hemisphere
  •                                       = 4.2 – 1.2
  •                                        = 3 m
