Explanation:

 On any path, assume that of length S, and you take time 't' to cover that.

Initial velocity be u and final velocity by v.

          Using, v = u + at

Your speed = S/t

= Average of final and initial velocity

= (v + u)/2

= (u + at + u)/2

= (2u + at)/2

= u + (1/2)at

         Your speed = S/t, so

⇒ S/t = u + (1/2)at

⇒ S = ut + (1/2)at²
