Dry cell contain pastes inside them to take part in chemical reactions. So therefore they are not really dry.

Dry cell are not actually dry because they contain electrolyte in the form of paste or gel with enough moisture. The moisture present is enough for the flow of current in cell. This also prevents the spilling of electrolyte making them portable and compact in size
