The Red soil is formed mainly due to the presence of igneous rocks that occur because of heavy rainfall, and it can be an ideal characteristics for farming as it requires low moisture content in the soil and is less fertile when compared to other soil.

I don’t know that it’s any more suitable to dry farming than any other kind of soil. What I do know is that it is considered a rather poor kind of soil. It is supposedly the main reason farmers in the South took to growing tobacco. It was profitable, to be sure, but it is also one of the few crops that grows well in the red soils of the area. In other areas of the county with richer soils, it was more profitable to grow corn and wheat than tobacco. I’m not sure that’s as true today with all the modern agricultural products to modify and fertilize different soils.
