dry hydrogen chloride gas does not blue litmus red where as dil. HCl does. Give reason

because in dry state HCl doesn't give hydrogen ions and litmus paper can't detect it .but In wet state HCl gives hydrogen ions and litmus paper detect it and changes its Colour
