when HCL is dissolved in water ,ionization is facilitated which lead to the formation of H+ and Cl- ions. ... Litmus is turned turned red by arhenius acids because of their H+ ions . HCl is an acid because it dissoaciates to give H+ ions but only in aqueouasolutionsi.Dry HCl does not give H+ ions.
