Dry SO2 gas does not turn dry blue litmus to red in color whereas when SO2 is passed over moised blue litmus it turn red in color. Give Reason.

- To turn blue litmus to red acidic properties are required.
- The H+ ions causes acidic properties.
- Dry SO2 doesn't turn dry blue litmus red due to absence of H+ ions.
- But when SO2 is passed through moist blue litmus paper,it reacts with it and gives rise to H+ ions due to the presence of moisture(H20) in blue litmus paper,hence give rise to acidic properties ,as a result turns blue litmus turns red.[It actually causes protonation that is release of H+ ions]
