DTD and XML schema both define the elements that are permissible within an XML document, along with the attributes that each of the element can have. They are also used define the sequencing and nesting of the attributes. XML schemas are xmls that have their own DTD defined. However, XML schema follow the object oriented approach and have data types like integer, string, byte, etc. which cannot be defined in DTD.
