Let before price rise quantity of petrol = x and price = y .

Hence, x*y = 500

After price rise:

(x - 2)* 1.2*y = 500

or, 1.2*x*y - 2.4 *y = 500

or 2.4 y = 199

or, 1.2 y = 50

Hence, new price Rs. 59 per liter.
