Due to an increase in the price of sugar by 25%, by how much percent must a house holder decrease the consumption of sugar so that there is no increase in the expenditure of sugar?

\Large\fbox\blue{ Answer : 20\% }

\Large\bold\red{Solution}

Let the price before increase be Rs.100

As the percentage increase = 25%

∴ Increase in price =  \frac{25}{100}\times 100

= Rs.25

∴ Increased price = Rs.125

Therefore the percentage by which house holder should decrease the consumption be

 \frac{25}{125}  \times 100 \%

\Large\fbox\blue{= 20\% }
