Given :- Due to an increase of 10% in in the price of bananas 4 bananas less are available for rs 40. the present rate of banana per dozen is ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, CP of 1 banana is Rs.x..

Than,

→ Total banana he buy on Rs.40 = (40/x)

given that, rate of banana is 10% increase and he can buy 4 less banana in rs..40 now.

So,

New CP of banana = 110% of x = (110 * x)/100 = 1.1x .

than,

→ banana he bought on Rs.40 this time = (40/1.1x)

A/q,

→ (40/x) - (40/1.1x) = 4

→ (40*1.1 - 40)/1.1x = 4

→ (44 - 40)/1.1x = 4

→ 4 = 4.4x

dividing both sides by 4.4

→ x = (4/4.4)

→ x = (40/44)

→ x = (10/11)

Therefore,

CP of 1 banana = Rs.(10/11)

→ CP of 1 dozen banana = 12 * (10/11) = Rs.(120/11) =

Hence,

Old Price of banana per dozen = Rs.(120/11)

→ New price of banana = 10% inc. = (110/100) * (120/11) = Rs.12 .

Hence, Present rate or increase rate of banana per dozen is Rs.12 .

SOLUTION :

GIVEN :

Due to an increase of 10% in the price of bananas 4 bananas less are available for Rs 40.

TO DETERMINE

The present rate of banana per dozen

EVALUATION

Let, before increase of 10% in the price of bananas, the price of each banana was = P

So number of bananas available for Rs 40

 \displaystyle \sf{} =  \frac{40}{P}

Now due to increase of 10% in the price of bananas, the price of each banana

 \displaystyle \sf{} =P \times   \frac{110}{100}

 \displaystyle \sf{} =  \frac{11P}{10}

Now number of bananas available fo Rs 40

 \displaystyle \sf{} =  \frac{40}{ \frac{11P}{10} }  =  \frac{400}{11P}

So by the given condition

 \displaystyle \sf{} \frac{40}{P}  -  \frac{400}{11P}  = 4

 \implies \displaystyle \sf{} \frac{440 - 400}{11P}    = 4

 \implies \displaystyle \sf{} \frac{40}{11P}    = 4

 \implies \displaystyle \sf{} \frac{10}{11P}    = 1

So the present price of each banana

 = \displaystyle \sf{} \frac{10}{11P}

 \sf{} = 1

Now 1 dozen = 12 pieces

Hence the present rate of banana per dozen = Rs 12

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the present rate of banana per dozen

= Rs 12
