Due to bad weather the average speed of an aeroplane is reduced by 100km/hr and time is increased by 1hr for 3000km long journey.

Let "x" be the original duration of the flight.

From given, we have,

3000/(x - 100) - (3000/x)  =  1

\dfrac{3000}{x-100} - \dfrac{3000}{x} = 1

\dfrac{3000}{x-100}x\left(x-100\right)-\dfrac{3000}{x}x\left(x-100\right)=1\cdot \:x\left(x-100\right)

3000x-3000\left(x-100\right)=x\left(x-100\right)

300000=x^2-100x

x^2-100x - 300000=0

(x-600)(x+500)=0

x = -500, x = 600

The duration of the flight is 3000/600 = 5 hr.
