stock. So now he has decided to sell pen at a profit of Rs
2(per pen), pencil at a loss of 50 paise (per pencil) and
eraser at a loss of 15 paise (per eraser). On a particular
day, he earns a profit of Rs 10. If he sold 10 pens and the
number of pencils and erasers, he sold are in the ratio 7:

Answers
Given:
Profit gain by selling pen = Rs. 2/-
Loss by selling pencils = 50 paise
Loss by selling eraser = 15 paise
He gained Rs. 10/- when he sold 10 pens and numbers of pencil and erasers in ratio of 7:10
To Find:
Number of pencils and eraser he sold
Loss incurred on pencils and erasers.
Solution:
Profit gained when he sold 10 pens
= Rs. 2×10 = Rs. 20/-
Loss incurred on pencils and erasers
= Rs. 20 -10 = Rs. 10 (1000 paise)
ATQ
Ratio of pencil and eraser = 7:10
Let number of pencils = 7x
And number of eraser = 10x
=> 7x × 50 + 10x × 15 = 1000
=> 350x + 150x = 1000
=> 500x = 1000
=> x = 2
Number of pencils = 7×2 = 14
Number of erasers = 10×2 = 20
Hence, it is the required answer.
Step-by-step explanation:
Given : -
- pen at a profit of Rs2(per pen),
- pencil at a loss of 50 paise (per pencil)
- eraser at a loss of 15 paise (per eraser).
- On a particular day, he earns a profit of Rs 10.
- If he sold 10 pens and the number of pencils and erasers.
- he sold are in the ratio 7: 10
To Find : -
- find the number of pencils and erasers he sold on that day.
- find loss incurred on pencils and erasers.
Solution : -
By selling a pen gain is Rs.2
he total loses 65 paise
On one day, he gain = Rs.10
On ten pens, his gain = 10 × 2
= Rs.20
loss on pencils and erasers = Rs.20 - Rs.10
= 10 Rs.
= 1000 paise
Ratio in pencil and eraser =7:10
Let number of pencils = 7x,
then eraser = 10x
7x × 50 + 10x × 15 = 1000
350x + 150x = 1000
500x =1000
x = 1000/500
x = 2
Number of penciles = 7 × 2
= 14
Number of erasers = 10 × 2
= 20
