Suppose initial rate was ₹x/kg. Then initially we’ll get in ₹120 is 120/x kgs.

Then after price hike by 20%. New rate is ₹1.2x/kg. And we’ll now get (120/x)-4 kgs.

That is after equating these two equations for the ₹120 we’ll get initial rate ₹5/kg

20%==1/5.... 5(initial price)----6(after hike)
Quantity ratio gets reversed(since quantity varies inversely with price)
Quantity ratio:6(initial)-----5(after hike)
Ratio difference=1==4kg
5==5*4==20kg(after price hike)
6==6*4==24kg(initially)
Given 120Rs==24kg
So,1 kg costs 120/24=Rs.5 per kg initially
