Corpus luteum secrete estrogen and progesterone,these two hormones inhibit the release of LH and FSH. So u clearly see here..levels of estrogen and progesterone will rise,while the FSH and LH levels drop. Low level of LH causes degeneration of corpus luteum leading to sudden decline in progesterone level tht causes menstruation.
