Due to storm and rain a tree broke and fell on a road which prevented the people and
vehicles to pass by. A group of children decided to solve the problem. They lifted the

Answer:

(a) The tree was 8m tall.

Step-by-step explanation:

(a)

We know that,

The tree was standing perpendicular to the ground, which means it would make 90° with the ground.

Now, the road was 4m wide and the broken branches fell on to the road which was 5m long.

I have uploaded an image above please refer it now.

We can see that it forms a right triangle,

Let's mark it XYZ,

So,

XY is perpendicular to YZ

and,

YZ = 4m

XZ = 5m

We know that, it is a right triangle,

thus, By Pythagoras theorem,

XY² + YZ² = XZ²

XY² = XZ² - YZ²

XY² = 5² - 4²

XY² = 25 - 16

XY² = 9

XY = √9

XY = 3m (We need not considered the negative value, because distance is never negative)

Now,

Total height of the tree(YXZ) = XY + XZ

= 3 + 5

= 8m

Thus, the height of the Tree was 8m.
