•Spirogyra is a genus of green algae that belong to the order Zygnematales. These free-flowing, filamentous algae are characterized by ribbon-shaped chloroplasts that are arranged in a helical manner inside the cells

•Spirogyrs occurs in freshwater bodies such as ditches,ponds,lakes etc.It is commonly called water silk or pond scum because of slippery touch touch of its thread like filaments.

•It is multicellular filamentous green alga covered by a mucilagenous sheath.
