anaerobic digestion' is the name of a group of several processes in which microorganisms dissolve the biodegradable substances in the absence of oxygen . This process of anaerobic decomposition is very useful and is used in industrial and household waste management or / or fuel ( biogas ) production. Apart from this, the fermentation used for making food and drinks is also based on anaerobic decomposition.

Anaerobic decomposition occurs naturally in many soils. It is also in the sediments of the basin of lakes and oceans. This was the source of what Volta discovered in March 1776 of Methane.
