India never had a famine of the level that occurred in China in 1958-61 because India's economic policies were different from that of China. The democratic government in India could handle the food shortage effectively which the Chinese Government failed to do.It is mainly because China did not have a democracy like India where the welfare of the people is given the utmost priority.

Answer: -

. Difference in government

. Better food storage strategy

Explanation: -

Three crore people perished in China's famine between 1958 and 1961. India's situation at the time was not significantly better than China's. However, India did not experience a famine like China did. The primary distinction between the two countries' economic policies served as the justification. The food shortage was handled by India's democratically elected government in a way that the Chinese dictatorship was unable to. Many fewer people would have perished in the famine in China if there had been multi-party elections there as well, allowing for an opposition party and a liberal press to criticize the government. You must be familiar with the revolution that took place in 1970. India recognized that it serves no purpose to be a beggar's bowl. In the past, we put a lot of effort on realizing food.

Hence, during 1958 to 1961 famine occurs in China but not in India.
