student tickets sold was three times that of senior citizen tickets. 142 more student
tickets than senior citizen tickets were sold. How many adult tickets were sold?

 Let \: Number \: of \: senior \:citizen \: tickets

 sold = x

 Number \: of \: students  \: tickets\:sold = 3x

 Number \: of \: adult  \: tickets\:sold = 4\times 3x

 = 12x

/* According to the problem given */

 3x = x + 142

 \implies 3x - x = 142

 \implies 2x = 142

 \implies x = \frac{142}{2}

 \implies x = 71

 \red{ \therefore Number \: of \: adult \: tickets\:sold }

 = 12x

 = 12 \times 71

\green { = 852}
