During an activity, students dip the petals of china rose in warm water for few hours. The coloured water so formed was added to the acidic and basic samples provided by the teacher. The coloured water changed to dark pink in acidic solution and to green in basic solution. This shows that China Rose extract acts as (a) Natural acid base indicator (b) Olfactory indicator (c) Not an indicator (d) Synthetic indicator

This activity shows that China Rose extract acts as (a) Natural acid base indicator.

Explanation:

  • Natural Indicator is a type of indicator that can be found in nature and can be used to determine whether a substance is acidic or basic. For example: red cabbage, turmeric, grape juice etc.
  • China rose is also a natural indicator which is extracted from nature itself. The China rose turns acidic solutions dark pink, basic solutions green, and neutral solutions remain the same.

Hence, as per the activity performed, China Rose extract acts as (a) Natural acid base indicator.
