As per first law of thermodynamics

dQ=dW+dU

In adiabatic compression dQ=0

dW = - dU

dU=-250J

The change in the internal energy will be -250 J.

Explanation:

Use the first law of thermodynamics as,

\Delta U=\Delta Q-\Delta W

Here, \Delta U is the change in internal energy,  \Delta Q change in heat.

For adiabatic process, no heat supplied from outside that means change in heat supplied will be zero( \Delta Q=0)  .

Given   \Delta W=250 J.

substitute the values, in above equation we get

\Delta U=0-250 J

\Delta U=-250J

Thus, the change in the internal energy will be -250 J.
