So that the peroxide ion, , has a longer bond length than the superoxide ion, In super oxide O2- one electron is removed from the antibonding orbital of the molecule where as in peroxide O22- both the electrons are removed. Hence the bond order is higher in Peroxide and the length is smaller

Hello dear,

● Answer -
Electron is removed from antibonding orbital of peroxide ion to convert it into superoxide ion.

● Peroxide and superoxide ion -
- Peroxide is represented by (O2)2- while superoxide is represented by (O2)-.
- One electron from antiboding orbital of peroxide ion is removed to convert it into superoxide ion.
(O2)2- --> (O2)- + e-

Hope this helps you.
