ELECTROPLATING OF SPOON WITH NICKEL :

1) ELECTROPLATING : Process of coating a metal on other piece of metal using Electricity.
Here,we are plating Nickel on Spoon which can be made up of metal such as Iron / Aluminium.

i) In this Experiment,
Electrolyte : Acidified solution of NiSO4 ( with H2SO4)

ELECTROLYTIC REACTIONS:
NiSO4 ---> Ni(2+) + SO4(2-)
H2SO4 -----> 2H(+) + SO4(2-)
H2O -----> H(+) + (OH) (-)


ii) CATHODE : Spoon ( can be of Iron / Aluminum )
REACTIONS AT CATHODE:
Ni(2+) ( from Electrolyte) + 2e- ---> Ni(s) ( towards Spoon)

Other Reactions of like reduction of H20 will not proceed since Nickel has Lower Reduction Potential than other components)

iii) ANODE : Nickel Metal Piece ( like bar)

REACTIONS AT ANODE :

Ni(s) (from Anode Bar) -----> Ni(2+) + 2e-

Other Oxidation Reactions of Other components like SO4(2-) ,since Sulphur is in its maximum Oxidation state.
