It is compensated by connecting copper rod on anode.
Since anode is positively charged and copper breaks into Cu2+ ion in solution and cathode is negatively charged hence Cu2+ move on cathode from solution and new Cu2+ move from anode to Solution. And the process keeps going.
Therefore, we see that Copper rod becomes thin as time passes.
