In  Forward bias condition 
  p side  with +ve polarity of the battery 
  
  n side  with -ve polarity of the battery 
 
So +ve voltage will repel holes and -ve voltage will repel electrons towards the depletion region.

These carriers  will occupy some of the region of immobile charges (ions of depletion region) and hence reduces the depletion layer width .
