The ray of light changes its path as it moves from one medium to other as one medium is denser than other this causes refrection in the ray of light.

Explanation:

Ex. Light travels faster in air than in solids so when it moves form water to air it will bend away from the normal. To remember that when light travels from one medium to another medium in different cases; Rarer to Denser - Towards the normal (RDT) and when it travels from Denser to Rarer - Away from the normal (DRA).
