Answer:

  • During photosynthesis, plants take in "carbon dioxide" and "release oxygen".
  • During daytime, with the help of heat energy from sunlight, plants convert the carbon dioxide absorbed from the atmosphere and water to sugar molecules and releases oxygen.
  • Thus plants reduce the atmospheric carbon dioxide levels by converting to other carbon compounds which are then consumed as food by the plant itself and by all other organisms.

Photosynthesis reaction:

            CO_{2} + H_{2}O + sunlight → glucose + O_{2}

  • Photosynthesis takes oxygen only during daytime with sunlight and hence plants does not release 'oxygen during the night time'.
