As the wavelength of red light is greatest among all the fundamental rays. Red light is visible from a greater distance than any other light is visible. And during sunrise and sunset the sun goes under the horizon, and from there only red lights are able to reach our eyes(due to highest wavelength) ,for this reason sunrise and sunset appears red.
