Out of thses 17, 3 provinces - Baluchistan, North-West Frontier and Sindh joined the Dominion of Pakistan, 3 provinces - Punjab, Bengal and Assam were partitioned between India and Pakistan. The remaining 11 provinces joined the Union of India.
