Yes when the world war was going on, the Manchester and other manufacturing areas of Breitling got busy to produce for the war, as before they and a good hold on the colonial countries as their market. But as the war struck, the British production tried to focus on war goods, this gave the Indian industrialist a vast area to cover, the whole country was left without any competition from the British eis or Manchester products. They saw this as a better option to create their hold on the country's production and started producing finished fabrics rather than yarns. After this incident the Manchester could never make its hold over the production in India.

Industrial production in India increased during the First World War because British mills became busy with tending to war needs. Manchester imports decreased, and Indian mills suddenly had a huge home market to supply. Later, they were also asked to supply war needs such as jute bags, cloth for army uniforms, tents, leather boots, saddles and other items. There was so much demand that new factories had to be set up even when old ones ran on multiple shifts. Industrial production boomed with the employment of new workers and longer working hours.
