"During the reign of Ashoka ,and Kanishka, Buddhist missionaries were sent to Egypt, Ceylon, Burma and Tibet for preaching Buddhism.

Buddhism was adopted and promoted by valiant rulers like Ashoka and Kanishka as it promoted non-violence and simplicity during the times of extravagant human conquests in the name of war.

During Ashoka’s reign, Buddhism spread to Egypt, Syria and Macedonia through the missionaries sent by him. His son Mahendra, a Buddhist monk, was sent to Ceylon along with Sangamithra, Ashoka’s daughter.

During Kanishka’s rule, Burma, Japan, Tibet and Central Asia via China were major regions to which missionaries were sent to spread Buddhism.
