Answer:

The motion can either be swift or slow, but motion exists. It is important that we give due attention to the study of motion because of its importance in the physical world. Motion is mainly described in terms of the following terms:

1)Distance

2)Displacement

3)Speed

4)Time

Examples:

1) Our daily activities, like walking, running, closing the door, etc. involve motion. There is a change of position of the object involved in these activities.

2) The flow of air in and out of our lungs is also an example of motion.

Two cases observed during the study of the motion of objects are:

1. Uniform Motion:

  • If the object covers equal distance in equal time intervals, then it is said to be in uniform motion.
  • The graph between the distance and time axis for a uniform motion gives a straight line.

Non-Uniform Motion

  • If the object covers unequal distances in equal time intervals then it is said to possess non-uniform motion.
  • The distance-time graph for a non-uniform motion has either an increasing or decreasing slope.
