During the Vedic Age , men took most the important decisions in a family.But women were also respected .How similar or different is the situation today?

Now a days women are given equal rights as that of a man so both of them can took the most important decisions in a family but in case of vedic age women were only respected but they were not given any kind of power to took decision regarding family as they were only meant for taking care of children and of home and nothing else beside these things.....but in todays society a woman can do other things beside cooking and taking care of house....
